Talk:Reporting phishing scams

Conceptually this should be the article linked to in the main forums for assistance with reporting suspected phish through the Fried Phish module. Future additions are planned to include illustrated instructions for submitting through a variety of browser toolbars as well as a list of publically available submission addresses for those who may want them. --Oldfrog 01:02, 21 March 2006 (EST)

A good start. I fixed a couple of typos and would have added the link ... but that would be premature I guess... ;) --Ikester 03:04, 21 March 2006 (EST)

[edit] Phishing URLs hidden behind innocent-looking links

I got all excited that the article didn't mention anything about phishing URLs being hidden behind innocent-looking links.

I see another article that addresses my concerns -- "Retrieving URLs from Emails" -- which has a link in this article, which helps.

But I still feel the "higher-level" article -- "Reporting Phishing Scams" -- where people are likely to browse first -- should have a heads-up about hidden phishing URLs right there in the text. Doing so seems like it would help avoid a few submissions from neglecting to include the hidden-phishing-URL.

I don't know if the point is clearly and simply stated that "The copy-and-paste (of full headers and body) goes into the top field of the Fried Phish module, and the hidden-phish-URL found by quick detective-work is placed in the bottom field." I think that’s the ultimate goal, and should be proudly displayed in a paragraph by itself.

Step 4: "Paste the data to be reported into the appropriate input field at the URL Above, it looks like what's below, but you cannot paste anything there."

This line is a bit convoluted. Recommend rewrite.

Recommend perhaps, "Paste the full-headers-and-body into the top field and/or the Phish-URL into the bottom field of the <link>Fried Phish tool</link>. To aid in this instruction, an inactive graphic of the Fried Fish tool is displayed here, so you can see what it looks like.

I hope I'm not helping to make things more confusing.

Hi Neil. Thanks for the comments but making suggestions here gets the response "do it yourself then!"  ;) --Ikester 01:51, 9 January 2007 (EST)
