[edit] Merge

I'm considering a merge with Lists_of_freeware_antispyware, will take place 30 days from now unless I hear otherwise. --LU 16:05, 26 July 2007 (EDT)

I'm curious as to the reason. Is there too much overlap with existing products that do both or something else? What would be the best name for the combined list? --Ikester 22:46, 26 July 2007 (EDT)
Several reasons.
  • The term anti-trojan is pretty much out dead today. You can count on one hand the number of pay and free products that position themselves mainly this way. Possibly trojan hunter is the only one based on the description on their webpage. If anything most (including boclean, a2 squared) have began to call themselves anti-malware which includes antispyware.
  • Antispyware/Antitrojan are generally the similar products these days with similar coverage, in essence they have being fighting for the right to be the backup/second-line defense to the main antivirus (which themselves cover almost the same ground today in terms of detection, but that is another story). Sadly anti-trojans lost, everyone will tell you in their best sage manner that "you need a anti-spyware to go with your antivirus". Nobody says anti-trojan.
  • The name for the combined list would be anti-malware. --LU 07:39, 5 June 2008 (EDT)
Forgotten I'd asked that. Indeed I've noticed the same thing over the last year. And I agree, anti-malware would cover both. --Ikester 08:55, 5 June 2008 (EDT)
