Hah! Gimzo cited this article from here.

What the heck is a HIPS?

The acronym HIPS stands for Host based Intrusion Prevention System. The full name is just about as unhelpful as the acronym.

In fact HIPS has no tight definition and it appears to mean different things to different folks. The attempted definition at CastleCopsis thorough but its taxonomic complexity confuses as much as it clarifies.

Confuses as much clarifies. Hah! That's the best thing anyone could say about it. --LU 09:17, 17 November 2006 (EST)

LOL. Interesting perspective though. Worth a link ... maybe a few to give readers an appreciation how difficult it is to bottle this particular genie.  ;) --Ikester 09:40, 17 November 2006 (EST)
