Talk:CastleCops FAQ Outline
From CastleCopsWiki
[edit] Rationale for this page
I am proposing that there be two Wikis which would, for the most part, mirror each other in their main content.
Staff Wiki - CastleCops Staff FAQ
Public Wiki - CastleCops FAQ
The Staff Wiki version of the FAQ would contain three main sections:
"Buttons, Bells and Whistles!"
"People-oriented Issues"
"Techinically-oriented Issues"
The Castlecops FAQ (in the Public Wiki) would have its own "Buttons, Bells and Whistles!" article which would explain, like its Staff counterpart, what the visitor will see both on the webpage and on their "Post a reply" screen.
The "People-Oriented" section in the Staff Wiki would deal with people-issues from the Staff's point of view; the "Etiquette" article would cater to the public in the Public Wiki - indeed an expanded one would do even better.
Other obvious examples are the "Technically-Oriented" sections for the various staffers to guide us in how to approach/resolve a poster's problem - these would be visible only to staff in the Staff Wiki. One example of its counterpart in the Public Wiki is the MRP - which guides the public in how to approach/resolve their (malware) issue.
Similar articles could help the visitor diagnose/troubleshoot their problem as much as possible - similarly to the MRP - before they actually post in the, say, SRT forums.
Example, the user has a network problem: the Public Wiki article on networking could cover the basics that only the visitor can do - check cabling, perhaps do an automated network check (Method 1 from MS KB 314067 - [1]). They could then come to the SRT GCP/Networking fora and include that info in ther first post - jsut as those who go through the MRP post their HJT logs.
Kindest regards,
Dragan Glas
