[edit] Spam Incident Reporting and Termination Squad
CastleCops announces a new anti-spam community, the Spam Incident Reporting and Termination (SIRT) Squad. This will be a community at CastleCops solely dedicated to taking down spam sites. It’s a new public takedown community, following on from the successful PIRT initiative, and we hope to start removing these spam operations as quickly as possible. The SIRT tool has been written by CastleCops.
[edit] Contribute to SIRT
The SIRT squad helps shut down spam sites, and you can volunteer in this global event in any of the following ways:
Anyone:
- Submit new spams for takedown
SIRT Handlers:
- Generate reports from new spam removal submissions
- Contact the appropriate authorities for spam termination
[edit] Submit Spam
Anyone can assist the SIRT effort by submitting new spam into our SIRT tool. Currently there are two ways to submit new spam:
- Copy/paste the email source into SIRT (How To FAQ)
- Copy/paste the spam URL into the tool (How To FAQ)
Note: Please do not paste the spammed web page source into SIRT
A third method is planned, but not yet enabled:
- In the future, foward email to {? (AT) castlecops (DOT) com}.
See more information on reporting phishing scams (which is the same for spam.)
[edit] Become a SIRT Handler
The SIRT Squad is looking to have around 50 Handlers reviewing new submissions on a 24/7 global basis. Upon verifying all submissions, reports will be generated and emails sent out to the appropriate authorities, and in some cases phone calls will be made.
This is the phase of involvement that reaches out for spam termination as quickly as possible. If you are interested in being involved on this level, training will be provided in order to become a SIRT Squad Handler.
Since SIRT handling - just like MIRT and PIRT - involves preparing evidence for Law Enforcement, there will necessarily be a process of "vetting" to ensure you are genuine in your desire to help prevent the criminal aspects of spam. Once your credentials have been checked, you will be enrolled as a volunteer, and the education materials will be made available to you.
If you are interested in becoming a SIRT squad handler please send a PM to tembow
