[edit] Filter Syntax
A MWP filter consists of several distinct sections and follows a straightforward syntax.

Manually adding filters to MWP
Instructions for adding MWP filters.
A collection of filters developed by a MWP user, Gary Partain. The filters haven't been updated since June 2003 but are still relevant, certainly as a starting point for MWP users who are Filtering beginners.
Two sets of filters originating from Gary's filters but which have been further refined by Wizcrafts over the past several years and frequently updated. One set is all-encompassing and large, covering both old and new spam techniques and variations. The other is a reduced filter rule set, designed to respond to current spam techniques, including the now prevalent image spam messages. These filter sets (see A new filter set for MWP users brought to you by Wizcrafts!) reportedly do not require any tweaks (i.e. can be copied to or replace the current filters.txt.), although you may wish to add your own personal filters, like "not addressed to me," or other rules you have already developed.
Please Note
These filters have not been critically reviewed. Some are set to bounce messages (see What_is_Wrong_With_Bouncing_Spam to understand why that's a bad idea). Also some make use of the blacklist, a capability many experts agree has limited effectiveness in detecting spam. Finally, any filter that is set to automatically delete a message that triggers the filter should be reverted to manual deletion until you've satisfied yourself that no legitimate messages are deleted by mistake.
Filters for detecting bounces and other automated responses
This is a set of filters put together by Stan_qaz to detect bounces, Challenge and Response messages, Out of Office messages, Spam and Virus filter messages and similar junk. The first section is for protecting bounces from your mail servers, the second two are on detecting the rest of the lot. The ones for protecting your servers will need edited to match your server's responses, the rest should be good as is. They can of course be added to if you find new conditions to be tested for.
(Some) of the Past Regular Expression Threads

[edit] Filter Strategies
Filtering via email message headers is much faster than searching the message body and offers some interesting strategies to ID SPAM
Filtering via email message body is slower but several strategies are possible by this method.
