Default filters are installed with new installs of MWP version 5.0 and higher; if you upgrade from an older version and have an existing filters.txt file they will not be installed. The default filter file: Filters.txt Download from CastleCops MailWasher forum. You can add the filters yourself by following the instructions below.
NOTE: From this post at the CastleCops MailWasher Troubleshooting / General Forum
THIS FILE AND THE MW FILTERS.TXT FILE IN MWP 5.0 AND NEWER ARE UNICODE ENCODED!
Be sure to right click and save it rather than opening it in your browser as the UNICODE format will cause problems if you do.
[edit] Manually adding filters to MWP
You will need a UNICODE-enabled text editor (If you're using XP, NOTEPAD is unicode aware. If you're using win98/Me, you'll need to get a unicode-capable editor). You should also make sure that you use the editor in without things like word wrap enabled, as some filter lines are quite long.
If anyone intends on trying to install these filters on version 4.xx of MW, the MW filters.txt is NOT in unicode, so you must convert the attached file to 8-bit ASCII before usage!
To install them, it's VERY important that you observe the following:
- Locate your filters.txt in your MW data directory (in MW navigate HELP> ABOUT then double-click on the link at "Enable extended...". This will open an Explorer window in the MW data directory.)
- MAKE A BACKUP of Filters.txt (just in case)!
- Close MW completely (don't just minimize it - exit the program entirely!)
- Open Filters.txt with your text editor, open the attached file in another editor window (or instance) and copy the attached file into Filters.txt
- Remove any duplicates
- Save the new filters.txt off and exit the editor(s).
- Start MW and go to the filters spam tools, customize or change the order as desired.
