[edit] Malware Incident Reporting and Termination squad
CastleCops Malware Incident Reporting and Termination (MIRT) squad is team of volunteers who report, investigate and actively work on removing malware from the internet. It’s a new public takedown community, following on from the successful PIRT initiative. The MIRT tool has been written by CastleCops.
[edit] Join MIRT
The MIRT squad helps get malware removed from the internet and you can volunteer in this global event in any of the following ways:
- By submiting malware URLs to http://www.castlecops.com/mirt
- Contact the appropriate authorities and ask them to remove malware hosted on their network
- If you join the MIRT team you can generate reports from new malware submissions
Since MIRT handling - just like SIRT and PIRT - involves preparing evidence for Law Enforcement, there will necessarily be a process of "vetting" to ensure you are genuine in your desire to help prevent the criminal aspects of spamming. Once your credentials have been checked, you will be enrolled as a volunteer, and the education materials will be made available to you.
[edit] Submit Malware URLs
Currently there are two ways to submit new malware URLs:
- Copy/paste the email source into the MIRT Tool (How To FAQ)
- Copy/paste the spam URL into the MIRT tool (How To FAQ)
A third method is planned, but not yet enabled:
- In the future, foward email to {mirt(AT) castlecops (DOT) com}.
[edit] Submit Malware Files
Files that appear to be infected can be posted to the Unknown Files forum. See the FAQ for further details.
[edit] Handlers
The MIRT Squad is looking for handlers reviewing new submissions on a 24/7 global basis. Upon verifying all submissions, reports will be generated and emails sent out to the appropriate authorities, and in some cases phone calls will be made.
This is the phase of involvement that reaches out for spam termination as quickly as possible. If you are interested in being involved on this level, training will be provided in order to become a MIRT Squad Handler.
If you are interested in becoming a MIRT squad handler please send a PM to nosirrah
