[edit] Shotgun Posting
Shotgun Posting is when the same question is posted on several different sites, or across multiple forums on the same site, at the same time. Although we make every effort to pass along the correct information, and have built up a good reputation doing so, there is nothing wrong with seeking a second opinion when it concerns the security of your family, data, or your wallet. And so, feel free to post on other sites, if you feel the need to do so. We ask that you follow the advice of only one at a time.
Please do not shotgun post to multiple forums here at CastleCops. It causes duplication of effort and takes our volunteers away from helping others also seeking help. It can cause confusion for those trying to help, and for future readers seeking information on a problem they are having. If you are unsure where to post, just post in one of our General forums and someone will help you.
Please note that it is generally considered poor forum etiquette to shotgun post if it is done to get attention ahead of other posters. Some relate that to attempting to cut in line.
If you have posted at multiple sites, please follow the advice of only one. If you choose to follow the advice at another site first, please let us know you are seeking help elsewhere so we can move on to help others. If they are unable to resolve your problem, or you would like a second opinion, you are welcome to return to CastleCops where we will be happy to open a new thread and help.
Please report ALL actions taken to resolve the issue up to that point.
Thank you for your cooperation.

[edit] Double Posting
Double Posting, a form of "Shotgun Posting", is posting the same post more than once in the same thread, or in multiple threads and forums on the same site. We ask that you do not open multiple topics in one or more forum for the same problem as this may cause confusion for the Staff responding, other folks helping, and our future readers who are trying to understand and fix their own similar problems. It may also result in you receiving conflicting advice, delays in resolving your problem, or sadly, further damage to your system.
Double Posting may tie up multiple staff responding, keeping volunteers from helping others seeking help too. Consequently, Double Posting is not allowed at CastleCops. Please be aware that Double Posting is often considered in poor forum etiquette and may be frowned upon by others. If you are unsure which forum is appropriate, post your question in one of our General forums. If another forum will serve better, a staff member will be able to take care of that.
Finally, we understand accidental duplicate posts in the same topics do occur. Network and server lags have resulted in a few. You cannot delete the duplicate, but you can edit it. Simply replace the text with "Duplicate post - please delete" and the Host or a passing Moderator will delete it. You may use the Blue Card button to alert staff as well.
Please refer to The Rules for further information.
Thank you for your cooperation.
[edit] Hijacking Another Poster's Topic
Hijacking a topic occurs when a new poster asks about his problems in a thread already opened by another poster seeking help. While everyone is certainly welcome to watch and contribute to any topic, to avoid confusion, please start a new topic when presenting a new problem. Although it may appear to be a similar, or even the exact same problem, very often the same symptoms on different machines are caused by very different error conditions. Certainly, odds are great that the computers do not have identical hardware or software configurations. Adding new problems to the topic causes confusion for the OP (original poster), and for those helping, especially in longer topics, and for future readers.
Please also be aware it is generally considered poor forum etiquette to jump in on (hijack) someone else's topic with your own problem. Opening a new topic allows your problem and your topic to receive the dedicated attention it, and you, deserve.
Remember, you can be notified by email of new posts to any thread, even if you have not participated in that thread, by clicking the Watch this topic for replies link below the last post in the thread.
Thanks for your cooperation.
To start your own topic, just click the "New Topic" button at the top of the forum page. Be sure to include your Operating System, a description of your problem, error messages (if any), type of computer (PC or laptop), brand (Dell, HP, home built, etc.), and what you have done so far to fix it.
[edit] Bumping threads
Please do not bump your topics. "Bumping" is posting just to keep your topic at the top of the list. We understand that you may be eager for assistance but please be patient. If our Staff do not get with you immediately it only means they are helping someone else. This is especially important with regard to receiving HijackThis help, because once a topic has been bumped it is removed out of unanswered post que. Remember, they do this free of charge and in their spare time. Bumping repeatedly may cause your topic to be locked.
