Folding @ home is a distributed computing project run by Stanford University in California. Their goal is to find out why proteins mis-fold, and cause diseases such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow, Huntington's, Parkinson's, and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes.

They ask that you download a small client application that uses your unused CPU cycles to help figure out what would take all the supercomputers in the world 30 years to do.
