CastleCops Staff: Special Response Team

From CastleCopsWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Members of the Special Response Team (SRT) are members of the volunteer staff chosen on the basis of demonstrated technical competence, ability to communicate knowledge in a clear and concise manner, and a willingness to follow through a problem and pursue it to a logical, hopefully successful conclusion.

SRT responsibilities, in order of priority, are as follows:

  1. To assist site visitors in diagnosing and repairing problems with all aspects of computer behaviour within their area of expertise and experience with the exception of the removal of specific malware using HijackThis. SRT members normally address issues in all forums within the CastleCops domain with the exception of the HijackThis forum. They address problems within the HijackThis forum when their assistance is requested by a member of the security staff.

In the execution of this responsibility SRT members are expected to:
    • Comport themselves in a manner consistent with the Castlecops Vision[1].
    • Present knowledge in a form understandable by the original poster and others who may read the topic while researching a similar problem.
    • Present clear and complete questions, suggestions, instructions, and procedures including appropriate cautionary information when required.
    • Provide advice on required or available updates and software selection, as well as system configuration.
    • Correct erroneous suggestions made by other visitors in a polite manner including a brief explanation of why the suggestion is incorrect for the situation.
    • Assist other SRT and/or security staff members when requested or appropriate either by posting in the original topic or through private messages and staff forums. When appropriate to the situation SRT members may use a team approach to a problem by posting amplifying information, corroborating opinion, or a complete handoff to another member with more direct knowledge and experience.

  2. To assist administrators and moderators in any or all of the following ways:
    • Marking misplaced posts for movement to the proper forum
    • Marking completed topics for closure
    • Maintaining board discipline by cautioning visitors posting outside of forum rules, violating forum etiquette, or providing incomplete/erroneous information
    • Identifying visitors who consistently violate the preceding and bringing it to the attention of other staff members through the SRT forum
    • Immediately notifying moderators of posts which are not in accordance with the CastleCops Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)[2]. This includes, but is not limited, to obvious 'spammers', obscene, threatening, or demeaning language, and hyperlinks to known or suspected dubious sites. SRT members only use the immediate notification facility when very prompt action is required by a moderator to perfom a function that is unavailable to the SRT.

  3. To assist in maintaining the integrity and spirit of the CastleCops domain by:
    • Reading and keeping themselves abreast of changes to the Castlecops Vision[3], AUP[4], forum rules, and established staff policies and procedures.
    • Providing constructive comments on policies and procedures which are under staff discussion.
    • Initiating change through the SRT Administrator.
