[edit] Introduction

This page is under construction! Links may not be functioning.

This page is created for the public to troubleshoot boot issues. These could be anything ranching from wrong videocard drivers to dead batteries on the motherboard. We will begin with a word of caution.

[edit] Caution

As I said in the introduction this page is to troubleshoot some problems which seem to occur a lot nowadays, by yourself. This does not mean that you will not get special help from us on the forum. If at any point during this procedure (which honestly contains some dangerous steps to work through) you think you can't do this by yourself, please post on the forum (in the right topic if you started one about this earlier). We are trying to make things more comfortable for us and trying to be able to concentrate on the more special problems, but don't think we will not spend any time on people having more trouble with computer-stuff than the average user.

[edit] Deciding when the problem occurs

The easiest way to decide what the problem will probably be is by judging when the computer stops booting.

There are five different situations when the failure can occur: 1. No activity at all. 2. Beeps and then nothing. 3. You get BIOS but fail at the Windows splash screen. 4. It hangs in the Windows splash screen. 5. You get through the Windows splash screen but fail sometime afterwards.

After you found out when the problem occurs, you can go to the right part of this procedure.

[edit] No activity at all

This means that when you turn on the system you don't get any activity, even no beep. There are several solutions to this problem, most related to power. Please try the following solutions in the right order by following the procedure on that page. If the first solution doesn't solve the problem, go on with the next one.

1. Change the battery on the motherboard.

2. Check all the wires, cables, connections to cards, etc.

3. Replace the power cord from the wall to the Power Supply.

4. Check the Power Supply with PSU Tester.

5. The process of elimination of possible damaged parts
